Paint protection film (PPF) in Peterborough

Peterborough sits on the A1(M), with the A47 and the parkways feeding into it — which means a lot of fast miles behind other traffic. Stone chips on the bonnet and bumper are the result, and no coating, wax or sealant stops them. Paint protection film does. It's a physical layer that takes the impact so your paint never does.

What PPF actually protects against

PPF is a clear thermoplastic urethane film, many times thicker than any coating. A stone that would chip through your paint at 70mph marks the film instead — and light scratches in its self-healing top layer close back up with warmth from the sun or warm water.

Most cars don't need covering completely. A front-end package protects the parts that take the hits: bumper, bonnet, wings, mirrors and headlights. A track pack adds the sills and the area behind the wheels, which is where grit and gravel thrown up off the Fen roads ends up.

Once it's fitted, it's very hard to see, and it can be ceramic coated on top so it's as easy to wash as the rest of the car. On a new or high-value car, it's the difference between a bonnet that still looks untouched after three winters and one that needs a respray before you sell.

Paint Protection Film (PPF) in Peterborough: questions

How much of my car should be covered with PPF?+

For most cars, the front end — that's where nearly all stone chip damage happens. Full-car coverage makes sense on high-value cars and new cars you're keeping for a long time. We'll tell you honestly whether it's worth it on yours.

Does paint protection film go yellow?+

Older films did. Modern quality films are UV-stable and come with manufacturer warranties against yellowing, cracking and lifting. Cheap film is where those problems still turn up, which is a big part of why PPF quotes vary so much.

Can PPF go on a car that already has stone chips?+

Film covers chips but doesn't hide them — they stay visible underneath. Small chips can be touched in first, and the paint should be corrected before any film goes on so you're not sealing in swirls. We'll go through what your car needs before quoting.
